The Second Sunday of Easter, At-Home Service for April 11th

Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Alleluia, that is simply music to my ears. For as long as I can remember the 2nd Sunday after Easter has been the Doubting Thomas Sunday. Many, not all but many congregations follow the revised common lectionary which goes through a three-year cycle of various scripture passages. We work through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and have John sprinkled throughout the three years. Each year, however, we have this reading on the 2nd Sunday of Easter, the notorious DT, Doubting Thomas. Because of this text, we have phrases like, “[o]h you’re such a Thomas.”

Pastor Katie’s Sermon

Today, on this 2nd Sunday of Easter many will gather to celebrate Holy Humor Sunday. Which I’ve always thought was a great idea! Easter, after all, is God’s great joke on death! Which may pose the question, what’s a joke? – It is something that turns the tables on the expected, something that hinges on the unpredictable, something that is just plain funny. The resurrection of Christ is comedy at its best. Hahaha death, Jesus got you! He isn’t dead, He is alive!
