Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost At-Home Service for September 6
In the passage of Matthew heard today Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:20)
Forgiveness from Jesus comes to individuals. At the same time, it creates a visible community on earth. This community is the company of all those who repent of past offenses and submit even now to the authority of Jesus that will only be fully visible in the future. Through Jesus, the small community of the church we see here and now is connected with a much larger community that exists into eternity

Pastor Rike’s Sermon
In signaling his own death and resurrection, Jesus was also showing the values of the community that gathers around him. In the passage of Matthew heard today Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:20) The community of two or more, gathered in the name of the crucified Jesus, is brought into fellowship with the God who raised him from the dead because Jesus continues to be alive and present, defining that community! Although there may be other values that define the community we call the church, Jesus mentioned four of them in the passage heard today.
