Social Ministry News – November 2018

Social Ministry LogoMitten Tree Donations Delivered
We harvested the Mitten Tree! Every year Shepherd’s Heart gratefully welcomes our donation of hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, and socks. We recently delivered dozens of these items to Shepherd’s Heart downtown who reaches out to the homeless during the cold winter. Please remember the homeless in your giving and in your prayers.

College Treat Boxes Mailed
On October 30th, we mailed Treat Boxes to our college-age members. A package from home warms the heart and fills the tummy! The next shipment will be some time in the spring.

Turkey Fund Collection
Please donate $15 to put a turkey on the table for a needy family this holiday season. The Lower Valley Community Food Bank wants to provide a turkey for every client for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Your extra donation is the only way to make this possible.

How to Donate:
1. Give Online. Next to “Other,” enter $15 and “Turkey Fund” in the textbox.
2. Write a check made out to “Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Fox Chapel” with “Turkey Fund” indicated in the memo line, and place it in the offering plate. Optionally use a “Turkey Fund” envelope found in the Narthex to enclose your check.

Food Bank & Backpack for Hunger Donations Needed
As usual, we ask that you fill up the grocery cart in the narthex for the Food Bank, especially during these upcoming months. And, please donate individually packaged, non-perishable food items to Backpack for Hunger in the labeled plastic bin in the Narthex.

Gift Collection for Passavant Residents Starts Mid-November
Starting mid-November, please select a name of a resident living at Passavant Retirement Community, to surprise them with a gift this Christmas. Your participation will brighten the Christmas season at the Passavant Retirement Community! The wishlists and names for seniors in need will be distributed after worship services. Please stay tuned for the dates and deadlines.
